Plácido Domingo has been announced as the closing artist for the iTunes festival, held at London's Roundhouse throughout September. The tenor, one of the most celebrated operatic stars of our day, will perform at the festival on September 30, bringing to an end a month of concerts by artists ranging from Beck to Kylie, Tony Bennett to Blondie.

The announcement follows iTunes's recent high-profile iPad advertising campaign featuring Esa-Pekka Salonen and Leila Josefowicz, and comes as confirmation of Apple's commitment to including classical as an integral part of the music of today. Another concert, on September 28, will feature violinist Nicola Benedetti, guitarist Miloš and trumpeter Alison Balsom.

'For many reasons, I am thrilled to be the final performer at this year’s iTunes Festival seen all over the world: thrilled to be following Katy Perry who was last year’s closing performer; thrilled to be able to perform with other excellent singers; and above all, thrilled for the recognition that this brings to the unique and magnificent world of opera and classical music', said Domingo.

The iTunes festival is now in its eighth year and all tickets are available only by ballot, while audiences in more than 100 countries can watch the concerts live or on-demand, including in high-definition through Apple TV. For more information, see www.itunes.com/festival
