Programme celebrates 10th anniversary this October
Wells Cathedral celebrates its 10th annual ‘Be a Chorister for a Day' event on October 13, 2012, inviting boys and girls aged between seven and 10 to take part. Since the programme’s launch in 2002, hundreds of budding singers have benefited from the insight into life as a cathedral chorister offered by the free course, and many have gone on to become fully fledged choristers at Wells.
During the day, participants enjoy singing workshops with the cathedral’s professional musicians, learn about the history of the cathedral, design t-shirts, and meet the current choristers. The highlight of the day is the opportunity to sing at Evensong with the choir.
Wells Cathedral Choir celebrated its 1100th anniversary in 2009 and will tour to Hong Kong and Beijing this autumn. In addition to singing at daily cathedral services, the choir tours regularly and has released a number of recordings for Regent Records and Hyperion.
