South London concert venue looks back on an illustrious history with anniversary concert by London Mozart Players
Fairfield Halls, Croydon celebrates its rich, 50-year history as an international centre of culture with an anniversary concert by its resident orchestra, the London Mozart Players, on November 2, 2012. Marking 50 years to the day since Yehudi Menuhin performed the first ever concert at the South London venue under Sir Malcolm Sargeant, this year's celebratory event features Chloë Hanslip in Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1 and the world premiere of Roxanna Panufnik's Fairfield Fanfare conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton.
Over the years Fairfield Halls has hosted a number of first-rate concerts, as the selection of posters illustrates below. Artists have ranged from Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jacqueline du Pré and Dame Janet Baker to The Beatles, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.
