A new exhibition at the Barbican Music Library in London explores the history of the Philharmonia Orchestra through photographs, memorabilia and digital materials.

This week marks 70 years since - on October 27, 1945 - Sir Thomas Beecham conducted the first Philharmonia Orchestra concert, at Kingsway Hall in London.

You can explore some of the photographs from the exhibition here - click the first image above to launch the gallery. All photographs courtesy of the Philharmonia Orchestra. The exhibition runs until January 4.

You can also explore more about the orchestra's history at the special mini-site  or through video interviews with former orchestra players
