After the sumptuous 2011 Jubilee edition, in 2012 the Stresa Festival, proposes a series of not-to-be-missed events on stunning Lake Maggiore and its surroundings.
The great novelty in 2012 is a short open-air jazz festival, scheduled in Stresa in the weekend of July 20-22, entitled Midsummer Jazz Concerts.
The Festival continues, from July 27 to August 3, with Musical Meditations, featuring the complete cycle of Bach’s Cello Suites, offering an ideal itinerary through Renaissance and late Baroque music.
The Festival’s main theme in 2012 is Looking Ahead (August 25 to September 8) featuring exceptional orchestras and soloists such as Daniele Gatti conducting the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and violinist Frank-Peter Zimmermann; Vladimir Yurovsky and pianist Emanuel Ax with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe; and Paavo Järvi conducting the Frankfurt Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester together with rising star Khatia Buniatishvili at the piano.
Gianandrea Noseda conducts the European Union Youth Orchestra, while the semi-staged version of Il barbiere di Siviglia is performed by members of the Lyric Singing Academy - Giovani all’Opera. Internationally-known cellist Misha Maisky performs at the Tapestry Hall on Isola Bella, which also plays host to great violinist Viktoria Mullova, performing with Ottavio Dantone.
