Avatar picture problems

A couple of problems re: avatar pictures on "My account" > "Edit".
1. When I try to change mine, I can remove it by checking the 'Delete picture' box and 'saving'. But no matter what picture I choose to 'upload', either nothing happens, or it reverts to my existing picture.
The new file I'm uploading is 90p x 90px and 6KB - but I can only guess those are acceptable sizes because of problem #2...
2. In the "Upload picture' section it says
"Maximum dimensions are and the maximum size is kB."
Perhaps the crucial information could be added? :-)

Hm. I'll look into the avatar issue (though clearly something's happened as you have a new picture!).
So it has - but it's not of my doing! :-)
What seems to have happened is that my picture - which was a bit taller than it was wide (and displayed fine until yesterday) has been stretched horizontally to fit the 80x80 px 'frame'.
UPDATE: As soon as I 'saved' this reply, my new 'webby' avatar image was displayed. Most confusing!
But, as you say, at least something as happened.
Incidentally, the system is still replacing the subject line with "Home" in replies - I had to manually re-enter it.

I also thought that you could upload any size picture and it would be downsized to correct avatar size (so the message is somewhat superfluous), but I'll confirm that for you...
