counting forum posts

A minor point, but can anyone help with this one?
I notice that some posters refer to individual posts by their number within a particular thread. However my counter begins at one whichever page I enter. Is there a way of disabling this so each page shows the cumulative number?
It would help when referring to previous posts.

Yes, I'm with Vic on this one. He might be wide of the mark on important issues but he certainly nails the minor points. Well done Victor.

Well, thanks. I think. And whilst small concessions are in the air, can I say I much prefer your having reverted to a previous name. Much more tasteful - and quite witty, if I may say so.

Oh I see, is sneezing and dribbling at the same time a more accurate description.
I completely agree! And am I wrong or did this not happen a little while ago anyway.
Another thing that would be useful would be to have the possibility of inserting a link to another post in the thread. This would save the need to repeatedly copy chunks of previous posts. Is this technically too difficult?
