Error when posting replies
I keep getting an error when previewing/saving replies, stating that the "subject" is too long, despite the fact that it's manifestly not as long as the error message says it is.
Eg, I just got an error message that said
"Subject cannot be longer than 64 characters but is currently 89 characters long."
but the subject just said
"RE: Home"
Previewing/saving again seems to get rid of the error, but there's obviously something wrong somewhere.

Reporting the same error: though in an earlier post today a much longer contribution went through without the same reaction. I'll check back to see if the message has been posted in its original/shortened form or is simply not there at all.
PS Not an April Fool to catch out some of the wordier members of the forum!??

Nope, it's definitely an issue!

The 64 character limit seemed to have returned.

It's never gone away for me :-(

It is a problem and we are looking into it, hopefully should be fairly straight forward to fix. I'll post here when a fix goes live and we can see if it works for everyone involved.

Can you confirm whether this message come up when someone enters too many posts at a single session. If this is so -and many would think that is a good idea anyway - could you tell us how we can we warned in advance before we transgress?
This is my second post today, so I am crossing my fingers.

Hi Micos69,
It's not to do with the amount of posts per day or session.
This issue is still on our list and will get to the top at some point soon!

Hi John
Back on April 1 you said
The reversion to the title of 'Re: Home' is definitely on our list...
However, it's still frequently happening, so I wondered how high up the list it was now :-)
Also, I sometimes get stuff like
http://www.gramophone.co.uk/sites/gramophone.co.uk/themes/gramophone_zen...); background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #d5dee6; background-position: 50% 50%; background-repeat: no-repeat repeat; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">
at the start of a post when previewing and have to disable rich text to remove it before posting (indeed, it just happened with this very message, which is what prompted me to mention it).
And, whilst I remember, when the subject isn't changed to "Re: Home" it's sometimes duplicated - eg, in the Subject box as I type it says
"RE: Error when posting replies RE: Error when posting replies"
and I have to edit it, or clicking "Save" doesn't do anything - not even generate an error message. (My guess is it's a manifestation of the rogue ""Subject cannot be longer than 64 characters..." error, which maybe wasn't fully tested/debugged when it was fixed.)

Thanks for those, it makes a real difference when we come to de-bug it a bit more. The problems with the subject field I think will all be related so *should* be a relatively quick one to fix.
I noticed the other issue on Friday and have been trying to work out what is going on there, could you let me know browser / OS to so I can try and track it down.
We are doing stuff on the Gramophone site and we have a (long) list of improvements and fixes to work on.

Chrome 5 (5.0.375.29 to be exact) on both XP SP2 and Windows 7.
Oh, I know that situation all too well! Good luck :-)

Well, I eliminated multi-posting as a source of error two days ago when the 64 character message came up on my first post of the day... I've tried re-posting and re-saving as Myron or SpiderJon suggested some time ago but it didn't work. Heigh-ho, this message is already over 64 characters in length...

Had to do electronic stereo LPs addition as part 2 because every time I tried to add to the original post it was rejected due to 64 character problem.

The 'duplication' of subject line is still happening annoyingly frequently when trying to post a reply.
Indeed, it just happened now, when trying to post this one!
Is a fix on the horizon?
Please?! :-)

There is, clearly. The reversion to the title of 'Re: Home' is definitely on our list, and I have seen the character length issue before, but can't remember off the top of my head what the resolution was - I'll check and make sure it's tracked down and fixed.
