I have been a subscriber to the print edition since July 1990. Although I keep all issues, it is difficult to find some specific older review as there is no cumulative index. I therefore used the on line searchable gramophile on this site to point me to the particular print issue that had the review I was looking for. I hadn't needed to do so for some time so do not know when things changed, but needing to search for a back review today, discover the searchable gramofile archive has apparently been taken down from this website.

If I am wrong, then please advise how I can now access it. Clicking on archive no longer opens the old search box, just goes to a page advertising an 'app' for use with an ipad (or possibly other similar electronic gadgets).

I use a desktop computer running Windows, which meets all my computer needs. I do not own, and do not intend to purchase ipad or smartphone or any other electronic gadget, so if the online gamofile has indeed been taken down, its replacement by an 'app' exludes faithful customers like myself who don't feel the need to keep up with the latest fashions just for the sake of doing so.

Of course I have no problem with making gramofile available as an 'app' for those that find that useful. But it is disappointing in the extreme that you have apparently decided that any of your long term customers that do not possess such gadgets can be completely disregarded.

I guess I'll have to rely solely on the Penguin CD guides for looking up older reviews from now on?

No reply needed - I got the information by phone. The same web based archive as before is accessible from a PC (essentially one just gets a URL link to it), but now one has to pay.
