Over-zealous spam filter

Recently I've been getting asked to complete 'captcha' boxes to post - once in a while that's ok.

But I just had a reply intended for the Radio 3's ludicrous favourite Mozart list thread rejected as 'spam' with the following message

"Your submission has triggered the spam filter and will not be accepted."

And it's not the first time - I think I've had three replies similarly rejected in the past week.

Given that, as far as I can see, there has been nothing, either in any of the replies* or in my posting behaviour, that should trigger a properly configured spam filter, I think something, somewhere, needs a bit of attention.

* Assuming what's being rejected is being logged, so you can make sure it's working properly, you can obviously check this.

RE: Over-zealous spam filter

I'm sure the Gramophone/Haymarket forum admins & techies are hard-pressed, and I know xmas has occured in the 10 days since I posted, but at least some response would be appreciated.

Thanks

It would be useful to know what sort of things trigger the spam filter - so that serious posters can avoid being dumped.

I have to say that this forum doesn't have the spam problems that the BBCMM forum does!

RE: Over-zealous spam filter

SpiderJon - apologies - yes, we were a bit busy just before Christmas as we were launching a new site into beta, and tbh I was so sick of the internet by Christmas I shut down for ten days...however, back now and raring to go so have been trawling our forums for issues.  To answer your question, no, we weren't keeping rejected spam posts (we thought there'd be too many for the moderators to manage), but taking a look it's not that bad so I've now configured it to keep logs - let me know if you have any further issues and I'll analyse rejected posts to let you know what's triggering it.

phlogiston - we're using a service called Mollom which "analyzes the quality of content posted to websites and tries to determine whether this content is unwanted or not".  it's a combination of the content of a post, a CPATCHA response and a poster's "reputation", which means I might need to check SpiderJon's credentials...:-)
