Just discovered this great resource today. The Winterreise recording was well worth listening to. However, I have a problem with the cover disc. There seems to be next to no information available about those tracks. Is there a proper listing online somewhere?

RE: The Listening Room

I can't get into the listening room. The "click install now to continue" button comes up but it isn't clickable. Very frustrating. :-( I usually listen to recordings I want to sample at http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/home/home/-/lang/en/currency/EUR but it's not quite the same.

I'm having problems accessing too.  When I click on the Listening Room link all I can get is the 'Join Now' button which wants to download the TellJack software again even though I've already installed it.  How do I get past this?

All - concerned to hear about your issues with the Listening Room.  Can you tell me what operating system and version that you use, in case I can narrow down issues to one particular one?

RE: Home

Just to echo John's comments, with any particular issues you have, the more specific you can be the more help we can be. As for pauldendy's point, once you've registered and downloaded the software you need to access the Listening Room through the application itself not through the url link, which is just for new members. Try that, and do let me know if you still have problems.

RE: The Listening Room

Dear Gramophone, just tried the listening room. In principle a very good idea, yet in it's present (TellJack) environment unappealing in it's usage. For a new "social media" item, it takes a user 7 seconds to decide if he participates or not (source:

http://www.amazon.com/Designing-Social-Interfaces-Principles-Experience/dp/0596154925/ref=pd_sim_b_1

It's the fact that I absolutely wanted to try it out that I went on...

With so many alternatives on the internet, all the restrictions and barricades make it for sure that I only will use the listening room for 30 days and not further invest in it!

RE: The Listening Room

Dear Gramophone,

I thought the frustrations with the Listening Room was to do with my PC setup but obviously not so.  With Win XP SP3 I just get stuck within a TellJack loop!  Do you think you could explain what causes this and a resolution please.

Meantime like others I've had to abandon this offering!

TellJack

Can you tell me exactly what the TellJack software from Jack Brand Marketing is please.

Several times I have intended joining the LR but as soon as the TellJack application appears I have considered the sense of loading what may be a worm designed to report back my browsing and buying history and perhaps more.

Is membership of the LR only given in return for access to subscribers data? If not, why the need for TellJack?

Please reassure me.

RE: The Listening Room

I find TellJack mystifying. Sometimes it comes up with several recordings to listen to, sometimes nothing other than the G cover disc. It subtly reminds me that I'm only on the basic membership but I cannot find what the costs or benefits of  upgrading membership are.

I have to say that sometimes it looks like a worthwhile set up with the chance to audition potentially interesting CDs. Othertimes it feels more like a trojan sitting in the computer. There is surprisingly little information about TJ anywhere else on the web.

Still just last month's cover disc on Tell Jack. As I have the cover disc, TJ's not much use so deleted it. Still can't make out what TJ are up to.

Alas, this looks like another exciting project (the first one being the PDF archive) that has quietly been abandoned. Only the cover discs were offered in June and July, and for August not even that has been upped (yet?).

RE: The Listening Room

I see the Listening Room has finally been put to the sword.

Long live the Gramophone Player!
