Downsizing
To back up your Brennan music onto an external hard-drive:
Make sure the hard-drive is formatted to FAT 32 thenPlug the external hard-drive into the front of the Brennan using the USB port
“USB OK” will show on the screen if the hard-drive is formatted correctly......On the menu function, choose “USB functions” and then “Backup music”.
This may take up to a few days depending on how much music you have stored
If you want to restore this music in the future, follow the same procedure but choose “Restore music” instead.

You can delete tracks from the HDD. You cannot rearrange tracks on an album, but you can make a playlist with them in any order.

i will say go with the brennan jb7, it can rip vinyl which the gigajuke cant do, and the jb7 looks alot nicer too and is easier to use.

For anyone who remembers this original thread, I was faced with downsizing my system to allow it to be played in a smaller house. I ended up with an Arcam FMJ A38 amplifier, Marantz Universal disc player and a Brennan JB7. I occasionally play computer-stored music through an Arcam wireless link to my amplifier. However, the Revolver Cygnis speakers have now been sold as being just too large. I am currently listening on an old pair of Mordaunt Short MS100 bookshelf speakers which I bought some 30 or 40 years ago, which have spent most of their life in their box in my attic. For health reasons I am having to move now to an even smaller house [a retirement bungalow]. I can accommodate all of the equipment I currently own but feel that the speakers and the Marantz player are not quite what I now need. I must have a Bluray player which will give me excellent sound from my CDs - the Marantz is great on picture quality but when used as a stand alone music player, does seem to me to fall short. Also the speakers need replacing - some small floorstanders would be ideal. Any suggestions that I could audition? I miss my vinyl records more than anything else but don't see how in my new house I can accommodate a deck. If only Technics still made the LP sized SL10 or SL7 models! Any thoughts on the above much appreciated .

As you have had no responses I'll mention I've just been looking at the Dec issue of HiFi Choice, a magazine I hadn't bought for years but got an issue since its new editor has moved from the magazine I get regularly (and who often used a valve amp identical to one of mine in his reference system). It reviews 6 floorstanders in the £400-500 price bracket and picks the Q Acoustics 2050i as best buy.
Speakers are of course the least perfect item in the chain & most personal choice hence no doubt why there is greater choice than for most other items. 'Speakers are also of course the easiest item to produce - build an MDF box and put some drive units from an external supplier in it and you're done! (well, ok, it's perhaps a bit more sophisticated than that).
The last 'speakers I bought were largish stand mounters (now superceded KEF IQ 30s) but it might be worth looking at their latest efforts with their Uni-Q drivers as I seem to recall they won product of the year for the last couple of years from Gramophone's sister publication. The IQ 30s have as flat a response as anything else of similar dimensions, better than many irrespective of price, but then you also have to decide whether or not you want to pay more for a real wood veneered finish etc.
I actually bought a second pair of the KEFs for another system I set up in the room with my PC audio & a CD player. They did however take a bit of time to "run in" but I am quite happy with them.
(I know you said you like to buy British, as do I but all those mentioned are from.....well you can guess!).

Don't forget AVI ADM40s - British made (apart from the drive units sourced from Scanspeak in Denmark).

Thank you to both for your replies. On the KEF suggestion, I had a pair of 104ABs and before them a pair of Corellis [I think] back in the 1970s, so I know the quality of their products is good. I suppose they build in the far east these days in order to keep costs down.
As to the AVI suggestion, I am sure these are good products but I just find their marketing statements too aggressive for my taste. Active speakers are the best and there seems to be no argument on the matter. However, each to his own....
In my quest for UK prodcuts, I will trade in the Marantz and buy the latest Arcam player instead, as I know the sound quality of their Bluray players is very good. As to speakers, well, I am going to my favourite Hi-Fi dealer in Stockton in the New Year to make a choice but I think it could well be Monitor Audio - provided they are built in the UK, of course!
Many thanks for your suggestions.

Best of luck Spadger, I think you may find that the big names like Monitor Audio, KEF, Tannoy etc may still make their top range products in the UK!

I think for downsizing there are two things that make a big difference: smaller speakers and digitizing your lp collection for upload onto a hard disc, with all of your cd's as well. The bulk of those lp's and cd's is likely to be much larger than any player or amplifyer. Speakers are a very personal thing. My main speakers are huge Quad electrostats, but I also have a set of LS3/5a's in my study. If I ever had to downsize seriously, it would be to something like those, and if I had to buy now it would probably be one of the smaller Harbeth models, to get a sound similar to the LS3/5a's.

Thanks, Willem. I have already started digitising, but it's a long, slow process and I sometimes wonder whether it's worth it! However, I will get there in the end, I suppose. Space is at a premium.
As to the LS3/5a's I really think they are a little bass light for me. I am using a small pair of Mordaunt Short's at the moment [MS100s] and these are quite good for a pretty old speaker. However, it's the lack of a real bottom end that rules them out for me. I suspect that the Harbeths would fall into the same category - good though they otherwise may be.
Thanks again.

You are absolutely right that the LS3/5a's are bass light (and do not integrate well with most subwoofers). The smallest Harbeth is of course in the same category, but you could consider the slightly larger stand mounted models. See e.g http://www.avguide.com/review/harbeth-hl-compact-7es%E2%80%913-loudspeak... be careful because too much bass in a small room only excites horrible room modes (so perhaps stand mounted models are better). If you really want deeper bass in a small room, I think you may benefit from/need room equalization:
http://www.dspeaker.com/en/products/20-dual-core.shtml
This system als has a built-in DAC and pre amp.
If you were to go the very small speaker (like the Harbeth p3esr) plus small subwoofer route, the antimode 8033 would be the equalizer of choice. For the p3esr see: http://www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/harbeth_p3esr_loudspeaker/index.html The upper bass hump of this speaker is much less than the ls3/5a, so it should be easier to integrate a sub.
