Hi guys!

I purchased a Project deck a couple of years ago (Czech I think) and I think it is a good deck (hope you agree).

Having finally thrown out my old Sony etc...separates, you know ones that said 'ye compact disc drawer', I was wondering what would be a good system to build around this deck.

(I am a total ignoramus on the audio side, so please can I have it in idiotproof language. Don't go woofing and tweeting at me too much).

Suggestions at lower/mid price range would be welcome rather than upper end.

I would rather ask you guys who are very knowledgeable than ring some hi-fi specialist who, let's face it, will simply recommend whatever they have got 50 of in the stock room that's on 'special offer'.

Please excuse me if I don't reply to individual suggestions, otherwise I will be repeating 'thanks bud I'll look into that one' over and over. I'm sure that, in a few weeks I will tell you what I got! As and when...

Many thanks

Mark (Partsong)

RE: Idiotproof Project

The suggestions will depend on which Pro-ject model you have, and what you want the rest of the system to do. Some Pro-jects have built-in phono preamplifiers, so don't need this facility in an amplifier, while others don't and so need an amp with a phono stage (which is relatively rare these days) or a separate phono stage to be used between turntable and amp.

Best way to find out - where did the Pro-ject plug in on your old system? To a 'phono' input,o r one marked 'aux' or something similar?

The rest of it s down to what you need from the system. At its most basic you just need an amplifier and some speakers, but if you want to it play CDs, hook up to an iPod, receive radio, stream music from a computer or whatever, that will of course influence suggestions.

Thanks Andrew for your response. Sorry for delay.

The Pro-ject deck has two small jack plugs which connect to an amplifier.

I do want to play CD's and receive radio of course - not really bothered about the downloading side of things.
