The logitech squeezebox touch is sold on amazon and in the details it says it has built in speakers but every review talks about running it through an amplifier. So can it run on its own without amp and speakers or not?

I've just posted a message to the General Discussion on the discontinuation of the Covermount CD about using Squeezebox to stream music from the Gramophone Player. There seems to be no facility available for doing this. Would the most convenient route be to establish a Gramophone Player RSS feed?

I doubt there will be. Gramophone is restricted by licensing terms, so they're using a streaming protocol from Adobe that let's them lock-down access. An RSS feed would expose a URL from which you could download/make a podcast.
You need to connect it to an amplifier and speakers, or active speakers.
