No Spikes Allowed!
I am in the process of having a new wooden floor laid and, for domestic reasons, will be unable to use the spiked stands on which my speakers currently sit upon my (carpeted) floor.
The stands themselves are spiked top and bottom. The tops are ok, but I'm looking for a solution for the bottom, so to speak. At the moment, I'm thinking of something like a granite or marble slab upon which to place the stands, reatining the spikes which will then sit on -though obviously not penetrate - the marble/granite. The spikes are, of course, removable, but stability is not an issue because of their placement. Sound quality most certainly is, though.
Has anyone any tips/recommendations or other solutions from a purely acoustic point of view? My intention is still to use the bottom spikes, but these are, of course, removable if there's anything significantly better that anyone can recommend.
All help, suggestions and comments most welcome!

You could always have slabs made with indentations ground out into which the stand spikes sit. Or maybe even consider some spike cups made for just this purpose, such as these

Many thanks both, your help is much appreciated. Andrew, that is an elegant solution and I have just ordered a set of cups. And Phileas, your suggestion has given me an idea for elsewhere in my set-up.
I'd call that a double result. Thanks again.

Andrew, just a quick line to say that I purchased the 'spike cups' and I'm extremely impressed. Aside from the protective aspect, my first reactions based on a couple of evenings' random listening are extremely favourable. I am very impressed with what is a clear improvement in cleaning up the sound of the system and although a change in floor from carpet to wood will obviously have its own effects, it's probably the best £15 I've spent in a long while.
Many thanks again..

How about these instead of spikes?

I use smaller ones on the tops of my speaker stands to protect the speaker veneer.
