The Brennan JB7
I have a Brennan and have loaded my large CD collection onto it but I find it rather cumbersome locating tracks and albums plus I like to burn my own compilation CDs .... as a result of which I'm moving to iTunes / iPod but keeping the Brennan as a back up and to play on random, which often produces interesting results. Could somebody explain the process of moving all my tracks from the Brennan to iTunes? Also will tracks display properly on iTunes by name of track/ album / artist? The alternative, loading all my CDs again onto iTunes, would take me a long time.

Transfer the music from the JB7 onto a USB memory stick. Then plug the memory stick into your PC. Copy the MP3s to a convenient folder on the PC then use iTunes to load these MP3s onto your iPod.

I don't think there is USB stick capacious enough. Alternatively, you could transfer the files to a mobile hard drive, connect the hard drive to the PC, and then use I-Tunes to load them to your PC or keep them on the mobile hard drive by going to Edit, Preferences, Advanced. Once you are on the Advanced screen, uncheck Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library so that iTunes doesn't copy them to your internal hard drive. I am just adding this because you may not want all those files on your internal hard drive, especially if it is notebook.

The JB7 has an internal 60W amp – this can be bypassed via the headphone socket should you wish to use your own amp.

It took me three and a half days to transfer the contents of my Brennan to a hard disc drive which I've now plugged into my PC. I've transferred some individual albums copied from the hard disc drive to a folder and then imported the folder into iTunes but only the name of each song is displayed i.e no artist or album title. Is it possible for iTunes to display that information? If not, I suspect I'll end up having to load individual CDs into iTunes. Thanking whoever responds in advance.

How can I create a text document of the albums on my JB7?

To create a text document of the albums on your device:
1) Insert a USB storage device (Eg a usb Pendrive)
2) Go to the main menu
3) Select "Usb Functions".
4) Select "List Albums"
This Will create a text file on your USB stick detailing the albums
hope this helps

It is possible for iTunes to display the information you want. However, you might have to enter that information manually. I am surprised that information isn't linked to the mp3 tracks. You can ask iTunes to download the missing track information for individuals songs/tracks by going to the Advanced Tag and choosing Get Track names. It sounds like a time consuming process to me. I think VicJay knows something about cleaning up the tags of these tracks with a software app that does them by batches instead of one at a time.
Maybe use can use the search function in iTunes to look up by composer
From the JB7 FAQs
Can you search for an artist or composer?
Yes - by convention the artist or composer is appended to the album name (or to the track name for compilations of various artists). So for instance if you use the Search Albums function and search for "beet" you will find all albums with Beethoven in the name.

Hi Parisboy, thanks again I tried your suggestion regarding find track names but get a message saying track names cannot be found for songs not imported in iTunes and to import the somg again using iTunes.
As I was reading this page I noticed an ad for a programme for Rinse software which could be a potential solution. Do you know anything about the efficacy of the software and what the difference is between the free download and the full version?

It will not work unless you first export the songs to iTunes. The Brennan requires you to load your CDs onto it in mp3 format. The mp3 tracks can be exported to a hard drive and imported using iTunes, but as you can see from one of the posts, the track names do not retain the composer's name and other information. You cannot synch the iPod with the Brennan in any case.

If the JB7 states 0G, it generally means it is not reading the Main Hard Drive, this can happen for 2 reasons:
1) That the JB7 skipped the disk check on power up. You need to allow the JB7 to run through the full disc check when the main power is switched on. You will see the JB7 working through a series on numbers and 'checking disc'.
If any disc errors occur at start up (the JB7 finds files or pathways that it does not like) then to fix these - Its Play to fix and Next to skip.
If the fix is skipped it marks the disk as not present so you get 0G.
The skip option is really only for the factory in case it gets stuck fixing the disk – customers generally always need to press play to fix. On occasions there can be more than one problem so they have to press play a few times.
2) Another instant when this can occur is if the unit is turned off while its writing to the disk. Meaning the Brennan was turned of at the mains while it was doing something. Most obviously this happens when a customer has got a CD stuck in the JB7, and they press eject and switch of the unit on and off to retrieve it. Therefore this action causes the Brennan to think there is no disk attached . We always recommend press and hold the stop button twice – it stops the disk and parks the heads – before pulling the plug.
3)To fix a 0G the best thing to do is run a clean up by following these Menu options:
Go to the menu > Scroll through and select Settings > Scroll through and select Maintenance > Scroll through and select Clean up.
You will be then asked if you are sure, select ok.
It will state working then go back to the clock.
4) And then re-set you Brennan:
Go to the menu > Scroll through and select Settings > Scroll through and select Maintenance > Scroll through and select Reset settings.
It will then go back to the clock.
5) Finally after doing the above, switch the Brennan off and then back on and allow it to run the full disc check.
