It's easy to load CD's onto the Brennan JB7, but it's not so easy to find what you're looking for when you actually want to listen to music.

What I think might be really useful for technophobes is a CD ripper with a reliable database for classical CDs which could create an iTunes or similar library without fuss. No need for a built in amplifier. The database is key and, of course, you don't really need a separate gadget at all - just a PC with a suitable program but does such a program exist?

If such a program existed my dad would probably try moving to a server based system. I think I put him off buying a Brennan after telling him about the problems described in this thread.

I use dbpoweramp which works fine for me.

The Brennan works better as an amp than as a music system.  I use it for my tv, where it fits nicely because of its small size.  I could do without the giant brick though.

So do I but I still have to do a bit of tag editing afterwards.

What I'm thinking of is something which is, say, 95% reliable.

Just buy an iPod and plug into your existing hifi via cable or wirelessly. Easier to use with album pics and alphabetically stored music searchable by track, artist and album.

RE: The Brennan JB7

I bought a Brennan JB7 last October.   The sound is good (good enough for me) but it's been highly unsatisfactory. My original unit has been replaced twice and the same problems have arisen with each one. I've given up trying to load CDs directly because too often the recording is flawed - it's more reliable, and quicker, to record a CD to my PC and copy the mp3 files across.  The playlist functions are unreliable and there are many irritants in the way the software works, or doesn't work. It was not designed for users with broad tastes in music. I've spent countless frustrating hours trying to get it set up to my satisfaction. Sounds good, but overall definitely not recommendable.

You can actually play songs direct from the Apple ipod threw the Brennan JB7 via the Aux - in connector, and use the ipod as the remote. Also you can transfer the content of your ipod to the JB7, the songs will show as a single album.
