A Mahlerian vignette...

Not a significant post at all, but I've just been catching up with the video of the recent BPO/Rattle Mahler 3 on the BPO Digital Concert Hall website. In the very last minutes, as Mahler really moves to move the earth, there's a wonderful sight: one little boy in the front row of the chorus jamming his fingers in his ears, the boy right next to him visibly gleeful at every percussion crash.
I couldn't help thinking this a very Mahlerian image in all sorts of ways. The video editors are probably a bit annoyed. But I like to think Mahler would have approved of it.
