What sort of nonsense has Philip Clarke written about Philip Glass in the new magazine? He claims Schleiermacher is "cooler" than Philip Glass's own musicians! What nonsense! Schleiermacher's performance is boring, boring, boring. It's the Glass performance that's cool!
Hi Peter. If you don’t mind me saying, I think you’ve
slightly got hold of the wrong end of the stick. I agree with you! The Glass
Ensemble’s performance of Music in Fifths
etc is much more interesting than Schleiermacher’s, as I think I make clear in
my review. When I say Schleiermacher is ‘cool’ I mean emotionally and aesthetically,
not in any Lester Young sense of the word. I hope that clears that up.
