Here's an idea. Why not publish the classical music guide on CD-ROM with a search engine feature? Or make it downloadable?

Or an iPhone app, for when you're in the shop...

Good idea.  Do people still buy music in shops?

You can already search online for reviews at Gramophone.net. The point of a book is that you don't need to be in front of a PC, and it looks nice on your bookcase!

My idea would be to collect all the reviews from Gramophone with a facility to search by composer, work, orchestra, etc or combination of these.

It could be called Gramofile...

A couple of points in reply to this thread. We did once-upon-a-time produce a CD Rom of Gramofile, but stopped it as the cost of doing so made it quite expensive for most readers. And, yes, bringing back Gramofile, or something similar, is still a plan for the future...

A digital version of the Classical Music Guide is, however, something we are discussing - would there be interest in this?

Yes, in my case in a Kindle version. But you'd have to be sensible about pricing - the printed version has got eye-wateringly expensive - at full price, anyway. The Amazon price is bearable.

Yes, a Kindle version would be most sensible since there is a Kindle application for PC, Android, and iPad, that is, most platforms.

I would definitively buy an electronic version of the Guide if I could read it with iPad - as I currently subscribe to the magazine itself. Currently, I have the Guide as a loan from my local public library constantly, but it s not very handy. I love t use it almost daily, be it for finding new music or recordings, or checking what thr great vrotics said of a recording or a piece I have just heard.

RE: Classical music guide for iPad

I can absolutely guarantee you that I would purchase a copy either of the guide on Kindle, to view on my iPad using the Kindle app, or as a separate iPad app. I still love flipping through physical books (and I already have the Guide on my shelf, in fact), but the iPad means that I'm able to have such material with me wherever I go. Even though it would mean duplication, in my case, I would still make the purchase.
