Composer of the week : Carl Maria von Weber

After watching the Freischutz Hamburg dvd a second time I have more sympathy with its denigraters. I like many of the stage effects and the acting is good, but for the most part it has been turned into a farce and there has to be much more to it than this. As much as I disagree with the Singing Museum approach to opera there's no doubt that some producers and directors get a bit narcissistic trying to showcase their ideas and improve on tradition.
