Curious Dislikes
Above all, do you see, Graham, any possible or potential direction of a valid debate (reaching a viable resolution)?
Poor Parla! You just don't get it.
It isn't a debate, at all. Just a conversation. Do you know what they are?
Don't you ever chat to your wife? Chat, that is - not debate. Say you are having dinner and she says "I don't really like these carrots", do you stand up, throw your napkin on the table and say, "Please to tell me which directions this debate is tending?" Or, "Woman, I fail to understand the purposes of this strange comment!"

Carrots are more profound than peas.

Thank you Bazza for the link. I'm glad to have rediscovered Schnittke! I've a Russian friend who can help me if I have problems with the download, so it should be OK.
Listened again to the 4th Quartet last night. Really excellent stuff, quite austere unlike the symphony.
But when I awoke this morning the first music that came into my mind was still the Mozart clarinet concerto! It's all your fault Eliza! Perhaps it's the key that's wrong for you (just joking!).
Some interesting things in this thread, though most seem to be 'off' the official subject. Great to see how many love Janacek's music. Wonderful, and most of the best written in his '70s. Amazing.

Chris, if you use google chrome, it will offer to translate the page for you.........Are you, incidentally, familiar with .rar files?

Thanks Eliza. No. What are .rar files?

They help you to reduce the size of a rat. You can get them at B&Q.

Chris,
Well, in that case, you have some hard thinking to do......
.rar files are compressed files. They can carry audio information in a viarety of formats: lossless (CD quality; FLAC; WAV and so on), or "lossy" (mp3). They have to be decompressed to be useful; and usually need some kind of fiddling to get the tracks out in the right way. It will need a little bit of explanation if you are going down that road and you will have to download some softward first - all legal and safe; and easy to use.
The question is where these .rar files come from.........if you know what I mean. That's all I will say for now.

Sorry Eliza, I'm not sure whether you wanted to know or were offering to help me?

I will certainly help you if you get your hands on such a file and want to know what to do with it. Just let me know. (The Russian file will probably be one.)

Thanks very much Eliza: as I suppose you saw, those Russian Schnittke files are in this category. OK. We'll see! You may be called upon!

Chris, don't be put off by Eliza's enigmatic ambiguity (how alluring those rows of fullstops!). Send me an email if you have any probs with the files. They are quite safe.

Perhaps just a tad but it's a damn fine work. It is the fourth he wrote but published as No.1.
