Today, 28th May, I received my July edition of the magazine. Don't get me wrong, a new Gramophone is always welcome, but do others share my slight annoyance regarding the month quoted on the cover?  I realise copies have to be brought forward to accommodate the Awards issue later in the year, but it is very difficult to work out when new recordings advertised or reviewed are going to be issued as a consequence.  I'm not sure of the precise answer, but perhaps we could have a "Spring or Summer" edition of Gramophone to reduce the untimely early issue of each monthly-dated magazine. Though that wouldn't make it easier to find out issue dates of CDs, it would allow following issues to be dated for the month following publication.  What do others think?

It's the same with most monthly magazines!

RE: Dates for each edition of Gramophone

Gramophone always used to have a section listing new releases at the back, with (I seem to remember) dates for their issues. Personally I use websites like Presto Classical and MDT, where forthcoming issues can be searched and dates for release found. Admittedly this might be hard if Gramophone is reviewing something not scheduled for release until a couple of months later - in which case, should it not run the review closer to the time? I agree it's frustrating to be excited by a review and then have to wait ages before chance of getting hold of it.
