You will see many of Dr Brodsky's contributions removed from Amazon's classical music forum for failing to meet their standards. Don't know if they dumped him but he seems to have found another readership to provoke.

Let's leave the good Doctor alone for awhile, shall we? More important is my lack of knowledge of the Amazon forum web site. Can anyone please tell me what it is? Thank you.

I can’t support booting somebody off the forum because he acts the goat or talks through his rear end half the time. Personal abuse is a whole different matter and Dr. B has come close to that a few times, probably crossed the line if deleted posts are anything to go by. I’m happy to leave it to the mods to take care of that and judge when enough is enough.

It’s ironic that some of those urgently demanding his head are the same people who’ve engaged in lengthy peeing contests with him. Obviously the man is a wind-up artist. If you think he’s talking drivel, ignore him for heaven’s sake. Or at least ignore the diatribe and focus on the point it’s hiding, if there is one.

Personally, I think there’s room for a little irreverence and ribbing on an internet forum, and for those who dislike such interchanges there’s always the Gramophone letters section. Lots of very serious people airing their views on there.

Wrong again, Brodsky. Horowitz was a first rate pianist AND musician. He was simply not for the faint hearted, feeble minded or reactionary hearing. As to Richter, try his distorted and maniacally telescoped renditions of late Schubert to see how "musicianly" he could be at times.

When Brendel was asked to write a article of his choice in the book Remembering Horowitz, he declined, stating 'I deal with realities, not myths'.
The Richter Schubert on Philips should be avoided at all costs. One bad apple. The recording, not me. OK both.

This is the same Brendel who refused to play Rachmaninoff altogether because, as he declared in a Gramophone interview, he just couldn't bear his music. So much for Brendel's "dealing with reality"... By the way, I agree with the bad apple angle. I just wanted to make a point that Richter - like almost any performer, for that matter - could at times also be crass and inexplicable.

I'll offer my full support to that point of view and try to be as positive as often as I perceive myself being negative.

In the spirit of said sentiment I will offer a positive spin on the Brodskysaurus' contributions to this site.

Brendel regards Rachmaninov as 'kitsch', that is too say that the means employed to express his emotions are over-inflated. I see Brendel's point, though I rather enjoy Rachmaninov at his best.
