Eberhard Katz

Hellow,
I'm interested to know where (which municipality and country) and when (which year) was the tenor Eberhard Katz born (and death). The only one thing I've listened to him is a superb Siegmund in Wolfgangs Sawallisch's Walkiry for Myto. Thank you very much for your kind help.
Best Regards.

RE: Eberhard Katz
Vielen Dank, Herr! Thank you very much for your respond. You'r really well informed. I've descovered that he was pupil of Josef Metternich and there's another Walküre sunged by him:

Once again, thank you very much.
Kind regards.

Interestingly timed! Katz was born in Krombach (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1928 and died in Köln in 2002. His strong connections were with the Kölner Oper and with Dortmund. A 3-CD set devoted to him came out last year (Hamburger Archiv für Gesangskunst) and there's a 2003 book (photos, reviews, anecdotes etc.) by Klaus Schreiber. Heldentenor as you say, but later (& this was where I first ran across his recorded work) he sang in the DG Cardillac (Hindemith) with Fischer-Dieskau under Keilberth (1968), and can be heard in smaller roles in York Höller's Der Meister und Margarita (recorded in 1991, again in Köln).
