If you read Eric Whitacre's blog ericwhitacre.com/blog/tempest-in-a-teacup you'll get his impressions of Gramophone's editorial policy, and why British Choirs are not necessarily THE best . . .

How about some comments from Gramophone's editor?

RE: Eric Whitacre and British choirs

Storm in a teacup describes it perfectly. Travelling or living around the world you quickly understand that every country has its slant, or bias if you will. It's most evident when sports events are reported (comparing reportage from different countries on the recent World Cup venue selection was hilarious) but colours just about everything. Which is why I've said elsewhere on this site, several times, that accepting music reviews from one source as gospel is risky.

There's nothing malevolent about this, it's just the way life works.

RE: Eric Whitacre and British choirs

I had the good fortune to sing in a concert recently conducted by Eric, he was amazingly good at dealing with people, using time efficiently and getting the best results and he is such a nice guy.  The queue at the signing afterwards for his autograph/signing was the longest I have ever seen at the Barbican and he made sure that he made time for everyone.  I look forward to working with him again should I be so lucky.
