Exit Dutch Arts...
Hello all,
Last week's performance of the Dutch Radio Philharmonic is now
(complete with no cut's!) on youtube in HD:

October 3rd, 2010 Live from the Concertgebouw Amsterdam
As many other orchestra's in the Netherlands, this orchestra and the
complete infrastructure of the Dutch classical radio is threatened on
an unimaginable scale. Even the continuity of the Concertgebouw hall
in Amsterdam, Vredenburg in Utrecht and the Doelen in Rotterdam is not
sure. Read more in this Guardian article.

Next Friday, there is a protest in the Hague, but I will seriously
doubt if it will change anything, as Geert Wilders:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geert_Wilders
has sworn to take vengeance on "leftist elite culture", and the other
right wing party, the VVD want's to have as less government subsidy as
possible. Exit Dutch arts...
Well, enjoy the performance!
Greetings,

The cut's in june are not connected with the, proposed, cut's by the new government. Most of the contemporary scene was thrown out of subsidy already. This goes much further! By the way, more about the protest here:

I wrote a piece in the June issue about the funding crisis facing Dutch arts, anchored around the disbanding of Orkest de Volharding and Ton Koopman's problems. Very sad to see the cuts biting ever deeper. Also sad to read this misguided (to put it mildly!) piece proposing a similar market forces-led approach in the UK, but encouraging to read Stephen Maddock's (CBSO chief) spirited response.
