Isn't the print of Dan Godfrey, well known conductor born 1868, one of his father, bandmaster of the Grenadier Guards, rather than the son?  Godfrey would only have been 20 when the original print was made, and as far as I'm aware he was not at any time a military bandmaster.

Is that the Vanity Fair picture by Spy?

If so, it's definitely of Dan Godfrey (1831-1903), and not the son, for the reasons you state.

Trivia - Dan Godfrey was the first British Army bandmaster to be commissioned (Queen Victoria had made him a Lieutenant the year before Spy's picture, as part of her 'Jubilee Honours').
