RE: Great Sibelius Conductors
The symphonies of Sibelius belong to my absolute favourite symphonies beside to Haydn, Mahler, Shostakovich, Per Nørgård and Michael F.P. Huber. I am not convinced so much by Ashkenazy, Barbirolli, Berglund, Blomstedt, Maazel, Oramo, Rattle, Sanderling, Saraste, Segerstam and Vänskä: I do love hear the interpretations of Beecham, Karajan, Bernstein and Neeme Jarvi. - but my favourite cycle of all symphonies is by Arvo Volmer an the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra(ABC Classics, 2010 Australian Broadcasting Corporation). Highly recommended!

I would add John Storgards to that list - in concert his Sibelius has been quite exceptional. Complete cycle coming from BBC Phil/Chandos soon. Storgards has very rare musical abilities.
