I agree with the live music point. Bartok's compositions are genious, but I never seem to see him on programs. But Bartok's pieces have been featured in numerous movies (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0059388/) ... but still not enough in that sense in my opinion.

I've just been watching the CSO Beyond the Score lecture-performance of The Miraculous Mandarin (conducted by Boulez), complete on Youtube. It's very interesting and well done. TMM is certainly the most viscerally exciting early 20th century ballet I know other than The Rite of Spring - and I'd venture that it's psychologically/emotionally richer.

The BBC doesn't seem to be giving Hewett much evidence: an all Bartok concert last Thursday night and Bartok the following night too and statements that the Philharmonia is "having a Bartok year". How many of the other composers mentioned above does that apply to!
