Why is it that so few record companies encrypt metadata on their recordings? If you are lucky enough to have a car with a screen for satnav etc, playing a CD with metadata will bring up the name of the work, composer and track title (ie the tempo normally) instead of simply track 1,2,3 etc.

Even some modern recording err here. Astree Audivis recording of the Faure etc quartets with the Eberne has no metadata

The only companies I have found that consistently encrypt metadata are Linn and Harmonia Mundi

Any thoughts?

RE: METADATA!!

I suppose it depends how you listen to music.

If I'm on my way home from work I just want to chill out and hear the music - any quantitative information can be a distraction.

On the other hand when I'm listening more seriously, certain information can be useful though this is better covered in the accompanying CD booklet documentation (something you don't get with downloads). A good recent example of this is the Rattle-BPO-Bruckner9
