Hello,

I am about
to move to Newcastle. I would like to know if there is any store specialized in
classical music or a place to buy classical recordings.

If you can
help me I’d be grateful.

As Philip has pointed out, the only real classical musical shop in Newcastle is Windows in the Arcade. Not the easiest place in the world to find (it's down an arcade opposite the Theatre Royal), but absolutely worth seeking out. It's one of those small family businesses that have somehow managed to survive the growth of high-street multinationals and Amazon - somehow. PArt of its charm is the near chaos of its organistaion: the top floor is given over to music scores, obscure folk CDs and ukuleles and guitars. The ground floor is full of digital and acoustic pianos plus one corner devoted to opera on DVD. Bizarre.Hope you like it as much as I do.

What happened to Schiller Kant's pleasant response? Are the mods finally acting against the trolls? Do tell.

I've wondered the same. Jane tossed up a ball yesterday that just begged to be hit (the vibrato thread). I was even tempted myself.

No worries. If the trapdoor has opened on him you can guarantee there'll be a reappearance.

Must have been an over sensative mod working this morning, one who had never been to Newcastle and thought the comment was untrue.

Oscar,

Windows in the arcade is a good shop as others have said. If you fancy an hour's drive or train journey, visit Bookcase on Castle Street, 60 miles away in Carlisle, for arguably the biggest selection of new and second hand classical CD's in the country.

Nice book and record shop in Hexham; sorry, I can't remember the name of it!

It's called Cogito, as in Sum. I bought a signed copy of  a Paul Torday there, he lives locally.
