I am still searching and listening, so far I have discovered Paganini, Brahms and Debussy amongst many; however I'll probably disappoint many of you as I have learnt one lesson I will not name them in any kind of list. I'm learning that Classical Music is a varied subject and I made a mistake in listing my top fifty.

Hi Ian!

Delighted to here that you have had the time and are continuing your explorations and are finding new delights!

Which Debussy and Brahms pieces have you enjoyed in particular? I'd (and I'm sure that others here too) love to hear about them.

Best wishes,

Petra

You've just made an even bigger one, discovering Paganini.

Yes, indeed, Paganini. Next stop might be Sarasate or Ysaye. Worth investigating, if violin is of some interest to him.

Ian, I'm interested to have a clarification on your last post: when you claimed that you "made a mistake in listing your top fifty" what do you mean? That you don't believe anymore in "lists" (of fifty or more) or that you were too "hasty" in formulating the one you publish?

I was always a
huge Beethoven’s fan. Schnittke, Faure and Debussy are also my favorites, but
whatever I was listening I always returned to Beethoven. And I did it again
recently when found new records of his works at onyxclassics site in
performance of Maxim
Rysanov, Kristina Blaumane and Jacob Katsnelson. What can I say?… I simply fell
in love with this music…

Mary, welcome to the forum and all the best.

If I am allowed, please could you enlighten me how far have you been in exploring the great opus of your beloved Beethoven. How many works have you listened to and have you attended any concerts with Beethoven's works?

From the other three composers you mentioned, I'm intrigued by your interest in a rather less flamboyant and rather low profile figure, like Faure, whom, however, I admire a great deal. Which of his works are you familiar with?

Thanks in advance, in anticipation of a response.
