Other Music Magazines
Recent copies of the CFM magazine have not been as low-brow as I had assumed. I would have bought it longer ago if they'd had more interesting cover discs.

And I was thinking if they started giving cover discs as good as Della Casa's Strauss & Cliburn/Reiner's Schumann I would get it for the cover discs alone, preferable for me than the Gramophone's former cover discs (and no I don't want to start that topic off again!).

In defence of Martin, not that he needs anyone to speak up for him, he has contributed to this forum on several occasions and indeed introduced the new forum as far as I can recall.
On a separate matter, has anyone purchased this month's BBC Music Magazine with the Hank Neven performance of Schubert's Wintereise on the cover disc? I am very impressed by it and have played it several times. This was my introduction to this fine baritone and I look forward to following his career and future recordings/performances.

Seconded, Caballe. However, I can't say I'm impressed. It's a competitive performance with a fine singer indeed. Definitely not an audiophile recording.
BBC Music magazine has surprised us with some fine recordings, unavailable otherwise.

Will there be free CDs with the Gramaphone magazine?

Gramophone doesn't have a cover CD but does have downloadable music via the Gramophone Player. I have subscribed to all three UK magazines (CFM, BBC and Gramophone) up until now - apart from anything else, it's a useful way of checking rogue reviews!
I'd say that both Gramophone and the BBC magazine are well worth reading - you can get them at a good discount via subscription. If I could only afford one, I'd go for Gramophone, purely because I find it a better read.
As far as "regret" on the part of Classic FM for the demise of its magazine is concerned - I have to say that not much trouble was taken to make the last issue especially memorable - just one CD review, and a lame cover CD in a card packet.

Troyen1, Must you continue to be so pedantic? We knew what Marcus meant.

Just when you think that we only have one left up pops another.
Continue? When did I start?
And who's "we"?
Including the CFM rag I always thought that there were four titles which includes IRR.
Not heard of it. Sorry to be so pedantic but where ignorance is...well you know the rest!

Is IRR still going then? I used to get it years ago from WH Smith but then it disappeared and I assumed it had folded.
Rather ironically I see the cover CD of the current Classic FM is non other than Munch's Saint Saens third symphony; one of the few recordings to have been universally praised on one of these forums (I forget which).

Indeed. It does review vinyl discs.

It was here and I bought it some time ago on recommendation of several members - and it's great! The most satisfying of the six versions I now possess - although there are very good ones on the list too. I just love this work.

Ooooh! quick response Martin. Thanks. But Me thinks he doth protest too much.
As a regular watcher to this forum this is the first editorial response I've witnessed!
Nice to know Gramophone editors, et al, read this diatribe.
