Well what a week it's been, with all the kerfuffal about having people removed. So I thought let's chill out a bit and have a party. A themed party at the Kant's gaff. Open invitations just bring a disc of your choice. As it's at my gaff I've chosen the Rachmaninov theme and I'm bringing Piano Concerto 2 Richter DG. So put your differences behind you, the weekends here, let's get this joint a jumpin. What yo bringing dudes and dudesses.

OK, S-K, In a spirit of friendship, I'll bring candles and the All-Night Vigil (Vespers) for late night listening-partying.

In the same spirit, old chum, I offer you two gifts for a good three hours listening: a) a rare for Europe SACD of Beethoven's Septet and Sextet (both in E flat) op.20 & 81b, in a brilliant recording by Exton with the Philharmonisches Oktett Berlin and b) the recent magnificent recording of Mendelssohn's Elijah (a Chris favourite) with Paul McCreesh, on Signum.

Ok Schiller, on my way. Bringing Britten's Sinfonia Da Requiem - a recent re-discovery on a double Britten EMI CD recently purchased -and a great work.

How much Brandy have you got in?

Parla, old bean, its a Rachmaninov party, ie, not Beethoven or Mendelssohn. I'll bring the Symphonic Dances and we'll rave. Oh, and a case of Bud.

Oops sorry! Rachmaninov theme means as Chris says the wonderful Vespers, though my recording is a bit obscure...

Plus a box of red wine...

Whoops, that Parla is a card, doesn't know his Beethoven from his Rachmaninov. Still, anyone fancy a cuppa, vaughan williams always recommended Linden Tea. I'll put the kettle on.

Pity, I'd like to hear the new Elijah from McCreesh!

I think I will bring the Variations on a Theme by Corelli. As the table is currently bare of much besides booze I will stop off and get the all purpose snack - wotsits.

With only and so much Rachmaninov, you'll get definitely blind. So, keep my Beethoven and Mendelssohn to make you sleep (at the end of the party).

Jane there 'are' several recordings of the 'rare' Troll Suite. However, this can only be a minor work by a second-rate footnote composer. If you 'wish' to explore further here are some 'of' my favourites from my extensive collection:

1) Hans Doppelganger and the Bavarian Strategic Orchestra on Decca. Superb recording.

2) Claudio Semplice with the Viennese Mutual Society on DG Originals. Impressive recording.

3) Arthur Wiseprof conducting the Conservatorium Orchestra on the newly formed Olympus label. Excellent recording.

Happy exploration...
