regulating my piano
Tue, Mar 30 2010, 5:59PM
Although the standard of my piano playing is not great, I am easily irritated by imperfections in the mechanics of my piano eg a hint of double hitting.
There is a temptation to buy some tools and try some diy regulating.
Advice from anyone who has done this would be welcome.

RE: regulating my piano
Regulating the action of a piano is a highly skilled job and should not be undertaken on a DIY basis. I would urge you to enlist the services of a qualified technician who can complete this work for you.

You should consider purchasing Arthur Reblitz's "Piano Servicing, Tuning and Rebuilding, Second Edition: For the Professional, the Student, and the Hobbyist" for information on the the care and maintenance of the piano. I would add to that, however, a small piece of advice before you proceed with any work on the piano's action: Hire a professional. The mechanism is intricate and manufactured within very small tolerances. Any adjustment made to one part will affect others and even a small miscalculation could render the instrument unplayable or cause subtler problems that may require a costly intervention down the road. You should consult with a certified piano technician before you take any action (no pun intended!) to learn from him (or her) what kind of work, if any, you can safely do on your own .
