It won't do any good, but Parla is not me and I am not Parla. As for what can be more pathetic, I think you've answered your own question 'bazza', the constant labelling of people who disagree with you as trolls and the constant name calling from group of people who really don't want to engage in a public forum and would be far happier just staring in the mirror at themselves.

Both you and Parla are clearly Trolls, Flamers, whatever you wish.

Lest anyone believe you yourself are otherwise, or have any opinion which may be worth valuing, may I point out that following my complaints regarding your two derogatory posts at the weekend on the 'Newcastle' thread both were removed.

Why you have not been banned is beyond me - but you'd just be back anyway - and reflects badly on yourself, the magazine and it's publisher under whose auspices the forum is maintained, so Martin it isn't just 'any' internet forum.

Light-touch regulation, as in other areas of life, just doesn't work.

RE: Removed threads.

I was a contributor to the very first Gramophone Forum, the one where the threads took sometime to reply to and not as fast as with todays upload. The former did allow for more measured responses and it was trouble-free (to my recollection); having come back and read the new forum over the past 2 years, I find myself in agreement with members who are disgruntled with certain posters, whose contributions, whilst appearing to be learned, are frankly superficial and quite truly boring. There are, with apologies to an excellent magazine, better fora for discussing classical music, and it is not surprising to see that these fora are populated by many ex-Gramophone forum contributors. Do have a look elsewhere.

I absolutely believe that everyone has a right to post and comment on public fora, but it would be interesting to see some statistics with regards to Gramophone forum use, i.e. with the change in the numbers of active posters with time. Is it static or on a downward trend?

Regards

Myron

Unfortunately I have had enough and will be avoiding the forum from now on. I'll still use the Gramaphone website for reference and listen to the Gramaphone Player, but the forum will be a no go area from now on. Of course the best thing to do would be to close the forum down and just focus on a great website. Thankyou to Martin.

Perhaps, Martin, you would be kind enough to read the thread "Curious Dislikes" from the beginning and up to at least page 4 for a flavour of what some contributors have found objectionable. I realize there is no remedy for this state of affairs.

I can't believe this argument is still raging. It is quite simple. If you want to use this forum to communicate with others than do so. If you don't like the people who post on here than don't use the forum. As for jumping up and down like a drama queen and stating 'right I'm off unless I get my own way'. Grow up, please.

My feeling is that the whole forum has become stale and fractious. It no longer serves a useful purpose because it is impossible to have a reasonable discussion here. My advice to you Martin would be to suspend this element of the website.

Come on, Brodsky, at least stick to one alias at a time!

RE: Removed threads.

Speaking of moderation, things must have been quite different back in 2010. I just had a look through "Who is the greatest living conductor of standard repertoire" (just resurrected by some advertising spam) and, in place of one of the comments, found:

Thread moderated to remove off-topic discussion

Hard to believe, if you have followed the forum in more recent days.

Sad, anyhow, to see just how many posters have gone............hardly a single one left from three years ago.

Oh come on Jane,  if anyone has taken threads off topic to fight their own little agenda then it is you. However when I start a thread I have absolutely no problem where it ends up. Surely a thread is supposed to weave in and out of things. I have no problem with othet peoples views, that's why I post on a public forum. Those who only accept one way, their way, will come and go.

I stayed out for some time to see how sensibly reasonable people may exchange their views on a very logical move of the editor of our esteemed magazine. However, still the problem persists. I'm afraid the problem is always within us.

We live in supposedly democratic, civilised and developed countries. Free speech, tolerance of other people's views and peaceful coexistence are the order of the day. Or not?

I know the posts of Schiller Kant and Parla well and they are definitely not trolls: a troll wouldn't spend so much time or give such sensible answers as these two do!

Yes, they would.

Those two put a lot of energy into wrecking the board. Parla's posts depend on the internet and reference books. He probably has a first degree, and is probably retired. He doesn't actually seem to know much about music as a discipline or practice. While he boasts about his wise old professors, I actually am one, and I know what I am looking at. It's all a wind-up. Anyone not here for that purpose would feel humiliated and be gone by now, but he thrives on it.

According to the date given, 6th August 2011, this is approx 1900 posts at 100/month for 19 months as of tomorrow 6th March 2013 i.e. over 3 a day! I hope it is helping.
