RE: Removed threads.

Glad to see this post, dmitri. I was wondering where common sense had gone.

On a related note, I'm baffled by the relaxed attitude taken on here to incessant, large-scale and programmatic plagiarism. One contributor, writing I think from England, points out quite rightly that plagiarism is a "massive problem at the moment in schools, colleges and universities in this country. And probably elsewhere too." Speaking from the US, I can attest that he's dead right. I've been reading Gramophone on and off since 1976, and a number of distinguished academics have reviewed and review in its pages. This is of course the forum, not the magazine, but should the mods really condone behavior which at the flagrant extremes on show here would have led an undergraduate student to be expelled or suspended ages ago?

I would also respectfully submit that while the forum's guidelines claim to prohibit personal attacks, such attacks aren't always easily measured by a filter designed to catch obscenities. I care enough about the magazine to say that currently its online forum is a public embarrassment, and that for all their understandable caution the mods must know this. Proactive moderation, over a long period, is needed if the embarrassment is to cease.

Yes, well said Parla. It does seem that these boards are filled with people who crop up from time to time only to hurl abuse at other posters and demand banning orders yet contribute nothing to musical discussions. With the advance of modern technology we can all use the internet whilst travelling to work to alleviate the boredom of the journey. Just changing gear. So Parla's posts can he seen as just part of a otherwise busy day. Mirror, signal, maneuver.
