London has been sunning itself for the past few weeks in olympic glory. What a place to live it must be. The closing ceremony is going to celebrate 50 years of British pop music and all that is comical about the UK. I can't wait for the MET Police routine. The MET who watched riots for three days and only then thought it might be a good idea to act. The MET who searched Tia Sharps grandparents house for a missing body three times and only on the fourth occassion decided to bring some ladders and search the loft. The MET who took bribes from the press and then decided not to investigate the press. Keystone cops routine at the Olympics as the MET take the centre stage. A lone piano. BUT what music should the MET set their routine to.

Well, it would obviously have to be 'A Policeman's Lot ...' from The Pirates of Penzance.

How much sunshine would it take to improve your disposition I wonder?

By the way, wasn't the BBC Olympic coverage absolutely brilliamt!

Hi Chris! I certainly enjoyed watching many of the events! I can't watch the BBC, but I did appreciate the articles that they had online. I kind of wish that the London 2012 site had a bit more information about the rules, etc. of the various events. Can't believe how many there are these days! I can't keep up! LOL I do think, though, that your British athletes rose to the challenge of having the Olympics in GB very impressively; hopefully, it will encourage many more young folks to get involved in athletics and to dare to dream their dreams. For me, it was a bit chaotic watching various events in the US. NBC had the rights to many of the events but not all (unless they now also own ESPN and Bravo?). The stations weren't right next to each other so scrolling through with ones remote became a challenge at times. One could also go online and watch all of the events (if you had the right cable package), but I opted not to do this.

Anyway, all in all, I was very impressed by the job that the UK did with hosting them. I had a great time watching a lot of it. No idea what the pop music finale is about nor why it was chosen. Will wait to decide 'til I've seen it, but I must admit, the tiny bit that I've heard does seem like a very loose connection to the Olympics! Why not something about the history of sport in the UK (since the UK is to be part of the central theme of the closing ceremonies and about the shifting of the next games to Brazil?)? Or also including other things about culture and history in the UK (including classical music)? I do realize that there is a huge and significant history of British pop/rock, etc. in music (and I do also like other types of music). I guess that they thought that they had covered enough of the history earlier? Though they did also incorporate music. Anyway, I'll watch it tonight. And thanks again for hosting such a wonderful event! :-)

Best wishes,

Petra

I don't know about 'classical music' being dead but if that bunch of middle aged over weight has-beens is what the UK calls a celebration then pop music must have died 30 years ago. The rest of the world must be laughing at how shallow London culture has become.
Best line of the BBC coverage during the swimming 'and what a strong swim from the British swimmer coming in 5th' - Yes, quite, it's just that 4 other swimmers had stronger swims.

I'd like to know who got the tempo so crazily wrong for Waterloo Sunset which, last time I heard it, was a ballad. (And, yes indeed Uber Alice, one does wonder what in 10 years time, when, best case scenario, Macca and Ray Davies are octogenarians, the organisers of such gigs are going to do?)

....and I don't want to sound like a complainer here who is never happy about anything but what happened to the BBC's much valued Multiculturalism. You had to practically win three gold medals with your hands tied behind your back before you got any of the plaudits that a British competitor coming in 8th got from the BBC. .....and another thing, I watered my grass last night and now it's raining, what have you got to say about that the BBC MET office, you just can't trust the BBC. or the MET.
