All-time orchestra

Hey,

This is the ALL-TIME symphony orchestra, alive or dead. I hope someday computer technology will have been advanced to where we can make a reasonably accurate simulation of them playing together, though I don't think any kind of computer simulation could do justice to what it would actually sound like.

RE: The All-Time Symphony Orchestra

Sorry if I ticked anybody off. I see a lot of you guys arguing, one guy about the conductors I listed. They're just there for suggestions. You can suggest more if you like, like someone said Toscanini. I can name more right now that I forgot, like Giulini, Solti, Karajan, Rattle, Mravinski, Dudamel, etc.

And as I said earlier, this list is ALL-TIME, alive or dead. No, I definitely don't plan to get these guys together. I'm shocked that someone actually got the notion that I was planning to do so in the first place.

Look, if you don't want me on this website, just ask and I'll quit. But seriously, if you don't like the list I made, don't bother to reply, just go on with your lives.

Don't let the few that seem to criticize everything deter you from the Forum. We need more people like you to express their thoughts in an unprovoking way.

Forgot to add Pierre Monteux to my conductor list (Toscanini & Boult).

What is your problem, Schiller? This list is no different than somebody making an all-time football team, or baseball team, or whatever. Once again, the only way we could possibly see what it would be like to hear them together would be some kind of computer simulation. Does this sound fanatical to you? Can you find a BETTER way to do it?

The musicians I listed are who I think were the best musicians of all time. Some people have other opinions, but hey, that's what forums are for. But if you don't like this list, then go read something else, no harm done.

So, how's life in your troll basement these days? (BTW I don't live on the West Coast.)

Just ignore him or put him down with a devastating witty comment.

You carry on.

I would have thought an orchestra of such towering egos would require a conductor with an ego that towers above theirs.

Toscanini, perhaps, or Furtwangler?

...or Mendelsohn, Wagner or Mahler. Al great conductors as well. With a good deal of imagination and respective computer simulation, who knows Liszt, Bach, Paganini, Sarasate, Ysaye and some others could participate in an all virtual reality thing.

In the meantime, orchestras disappear or shrink, conductors of old standards are a very scarce commodity, soloists more or less the same. Pity!

Yo-Yo Ma would have no problem sitting in the back of the cello section. He used to do it, and maybe still does, after playing as soloist in the earlier part of the concert.
