I note that this discussion has been dormant for a year! Still, I can answer your question - what happens in Schiller is that the King and The Grand inquisitor enter just as |Carlos and Elisabeth are saying their final farewells, and the King has Carlos arrested and handed over to the Inquisition and - THAT IS HOW IT ENDS. We are left in no doubt as to Carlos' eventual fate.
