RE: Top Five

Chris: I suppose you're right! I'm sure we can squeeze in an extra spot in our spaceship for maestro Saval :-)

Bazza: It depends on your tastes, really. The repertoire on this CD features three earlier versions of the piece (Latin, Provencal and Catalan). These are the more austere and stripped-down versions of the Cant.

This other album features versions from Mallorca and Valencia, and is more ornate and lush in sound, with fuller orchestrations. If I'd have to choose, I have a slight preference for the earlier versions, but both are music of unearthly beauty.

RE: Top Five

Brumas, thanks to Bazza I too have just seen your previous thread on this, and I see that Parla some while ago made the same point as I made above.

Savall has obviously a thing about this music. I have the Catalunya CD with three sections; La Latine, La Provencale, and La Catalane, as well as a 'catalogue' CD that contains an extract from Sibila Galaica. so there seems to one or more CDs you mention. Anyway, wonderful stuff, whoever is to be credited! Perhaps you should reinstate it to the project in due course!

Chris

Added: Aha! You were replying while I was writing this!  All points covered!

Thanks Brumas. I'll download them both and send you the bill if they are rubbish. :)

Ha, that's a bet I'm willing to make! ;-)

Chris: I don't know the Galaica-version, so it looks like I'll have to hunt that one down! Does that catalogue-CD mention on which album it appears? Because I only know of the two albums I posted!

Sorry Brumas, I didn't keep the (rather fat) catalogue. I just stuck the CD into the other case.

Yes, that must be it! From the short extract it sounds less interesting (more modern?) than those on the first CD. But it's only a 10' extract.

Further research has found three volumes:

I think that's the lot.

The first of these is reissued in this format:

I also have the last one, but that second one has completely escaped me so far! Strangely, it's also not listed on Saval's Alia Vox-label site... I'm gonna try to get the trilogy complete for sure!

Brumas, it must be rare. Someone on Amazon uk is asking £125 for a new copy!

Wow, that's a tad more than I'm prepared to pay for a record! Sadly, it's also absent from the iTunes-store, so here's to hoping Alia Vox will do a reissue of this one as well.

If you're interested, low bitrate (192) versions of all three can be downloaded from this site.
