Noblesse oblige, as the French say, but is there any nobility left in the audience, so that the soloist (or any performer) won't have to resort to resourceful solutions of this kind?
No matter how brilliant or noble the reaction of the performer, the distraction is distraction and it's painful indeed (for both the performer and the dedicated people of the audience).
