Welcome to the new Gramophone Forum
Welcome to the new Gramophone Forum. The shape of the forum - topics, thread titles and so on - will change and evolve as we see how it is being used and what you want to talk about. So please start discussion topics within this general forum - we hope you enjoy it!
If you have any queries about how it works, please post them here, and we'll help as soon as we can.

Delighted to see the new site up and running.
But a request - please can you reinstate the listings of who distributes which labels? It's invaluable for tracking down obscure CDs.
Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words, and welcome to the forum. As I mention in the news story on the homepage, this really is the first stage of a journey of continued development, and any feedback as to what else you'd like to see back on the site - or entirely new features - is really helpful. The distributor list is already something we're looking at. Martin.

Congratulations on the new design. It's clearly an upgrade.
I'd like to know if it is possible to show the past Gramophone awards (not only 2009) online. It would be a good improvement in my opinion, to have that valuable information online.
If not, i'd still like to have that information, so please tell me how to proceed.
Thanks!

Hi there!
Been a Gramophone reader since I was 17 old... :)
Curious about the new website and Forum possibilities!

Would someone like to start a thread on the proposal by the government to scrap FM radio broadcasting from about 2015. This will render all FM tuners/radios redundant. Also it appears from my limited understanding that current digital radios will also be only fit for the scrapheap and they want to bring in something like DAB2 which is not compatible with current digital radios. This also means we will have a worse quality of broadcast of classical music because of the poor compression rate.

Why don't you create one yourself Robert?
Go back to the 'General Discussion' landing page:

and then click on 'Post New Forum Topic'

and we're off - we'll have doubled our forum threads! I know our Audio Editor is hovering in the wings itching to get onto the topic, so feel free to start making the gramophone forum even bigger than it already is ;)

That's 'hoovering' in the wings – those site-builders leave dust everywhere...

Many thanks. And prompted by your comment, we've been looking this morning at adding the Awards for previous years, so they should hopefully be added in the near future.

I seem to recall signing up the "old" forum, but I didn't follow it up. I shall try harder this time to contribute! Good to see my colleague Rolf from the Netherlands here too.

Good evening from the distant island of Maui, Hawaii. Will the new Forum be able to repost the threads from the previous forum, which I posted on for a few years?
I have been able to locate and read a few of the older threads, through the valuable, "Internet Archive"?
I am gratified that the forum has returned. I have read Gramophone since July 1951. I was still at school in that year. Irvine Shamrock

Hi Martin,
Congratulations for bringing the forum back. Two important things I hope for the new forum:
1) The messages being more quickly accepted. It used to take a week or more for moderation in the previous forum, moderation which was not necessary anyway.
2) The huge amount of previous threads, accumulated during many years of Grammophone Forum, has a priceless value for research purposes. Any plans to have them available?
welcome back,
kindest regards, DB

Hi DB2009,
Not sure about your second point – that's something Martin would have to answer – but this forum differs from the old one in that posts go live as soon as they are submitted, rather than being premoderated.
The benefit is that the conversation should be a lot more immediate and less stilted; the disadvantage is that it's going to keep Martin, myself and the rest of the Gramophone team on our toes!
Anyway, hope you continue to enjoy it...

Welcome to the 21st Century, Gramophone! I hope now you will add new message boards. "General Discussion" alone is rather limited.
Regarding moderation, I have run my own Classical Music board for the past two years and have had next to no trouble with dubious posting in all that time. I wish you equal success.

Sadly DB, the old forum threads won't be brought back, as they exisited
in completely different forum software. But I have every confidence that
it won't be long before this new forum is rich in archived
content all of its own. Besides which, the ever impressive release
schedules from the labels means that most discussions could usefully be
had again, embracing the new along with the already considered.

I think the plan is to start small, and develop sections as the forum expands
