Andrew, how on earth can the forum expand if there is no room for it to expand into? The old forum had at least 8 sections for various subjects and that encouraged, I feel, contributors. This new version already looks like a step backwards.
One other question: the old site (using the same URL) was infamous for being hacked and as a subsequent source of viruses and trojans. Has security improved in this respect? In other words, is this site truly safe to use now?
Hello. As Andrew pointed out, we just set up one section initially whilst the new forum found its way over the first few days. I've now set up two more - Recordings, and Concerts and live events - which should embrace most of the threads in the first instance. As the forum grows, so will the number of sections.
Best wishes,
Martin

There is almost infinite room for it to expand; we started out with a wide open prairie rather than fencing the place off into little plots of real estate.
I think the inititial feeling, at least for the first few days of the new site, was to keep the forums simple for people to give their initial views. As you'll have seen, sections can be created almost at will to aid the navigation of the forums, so expect to see more sections appearing as the need arises.

I'll be watching with interest Mr Everard, as I have a vested interest in how things develop.

Let's hope Mr Clough in his interesting vest becomes a regular visitor here...

Yes it was, which was in part due to a design and technology infrastructure which made it quite easy to do so. A decision was therefore made in the late part of last year to stop 'patching' it, and rebuild it in its entirety in a new technology which made it much more hackproof, and what you see here are the fruits of those labours.
Whilst I think it would be foolish for anybody to say that any enterprise such as this is 'unsinkable', I'm much happier with the security aspects of the site now, yes.

To all at G,
What a great thrill to see the Gramophone Forum return. I must say, I've missed the opportunity to converse here and look forward to getting reacquainted with any number of old friends from all around the globe. Best of luck to all concerned, thanks for not forgetting us old G Threaders and here's hoping for many more years of great classical conversations.

Martin, Andrew, other.... are there plans to include an audio/video equipment thread to the forum? I'm one of those searching audio grail types who loves to read about other music listening systems and installations while debating the realities of high performance audio. Andrew, any thoughts on the audio section of Oppo's recently upgraded BDP-83SE? Best regards, Hal.

The fact that I'm here should make it clear that an audio section can't be far off!
recently upgraded BDP-83SE?
No, none at all - it's not sold officially in the UK so I have had no chance to hear one. But review coming up in a couple of months on a very interesting competitor for rather less money...

Chaps, are there any plans to amalgamate the two Gramophones sites (.co.uk and .net) now that the former is up and running once more.? It seems rather wasteful to have two distinct URLs now. Perhaps there could at least be a link from .net to .co.uk

There are indeed Barry - first steps are, as you suggest, to provide that link back to here from .net (which is going on right now), and the next are to make the integration between the two much more seamless, including the menu bar from this site in .net and, in time, the unification of the URLs.
