RE: Welcome to the new Gramophone Forum

I just added a reply a few minutes ago that did not post, when I pressed SAVE,

Also when I posted in "audio and video equipment", Preview did not work, and I thought my long post had vanished.

As you have likely noticed I was able to recover and effect the posting.

The Gramophone Archive is a wonderful venture, and I congratulate you upon it. May I ask, though, why you have not included the Player Piano Supplement in the Archive, even though it is repeatedly mentioned on the covers and in the editorials of the early issues? Perhaps Anthony Pollard's archive was incomplete, but I have a set of photocopies of the whole run, which I should be happy to make available, and I'm sure the British Library has originals. Although Compton Mackenzie gave his name to the whole magazine at that time, the Supplement was actually edited by William Candy, who used the pen name of William Delasaire, and who was a dear friend of mine when I was a young man, and he an octogenarian.

Much better site now.

Is there any chance of having a separate heading for Piano related matters please?

I would just like to say I think the new Gramophone site is excellent. I know it will get even more exciting and interesting as it evolves.

I'll look forward to exploring it, and joining the forum.

Thanks to everyone at Gramophone who has made it happen. Good luck, and here's to the future!

I'm glad to see the forum back after this break in transmission.  Adding my voice to other pleas, a rapid moderation is really needed if discussion on this forum is to proceed.  As a member of several CM forums, I note that the ones that really succeed have the minimum of regulation and depend on the good sense and courtesy of participants to operate smoothly and efficiently.  The few that may offend would demonstrably condemn themselves in what they choose to write.

Thank you for your positive comments about our forum's return. By way of response, hopefully you'll have seen that posts appear instantly now, as is usual of course on forums today, and moderation will only take place if a post is felt to breach house rules (which would include being offensive, libelous etc). And as you rightly point out, we'll also be looking to the good sense and courtesy of forum members to set the tone of debate.

This forum is far more inviting than the old one. Blogs look promising. Miss the search function from Gramofile, though.

Are there more reviewers from the Gramophone be joining in the discussions? Would make an awesome community!

The new Forum is great.  Since I just recently found it I cannot compare it to the previous version but I find it is easy to use and an excellent way to discuss classical music with other fans of great music.   I have been checking it daily and always find something interesting to discuss.

How does one listen to the Listening room. I have downloaded the player and cannot get onto any music. I live in New Zealand, is there any reason why I cannot listen?
