Partsong, you have to hear Le Docteur Fabricius. Koechlin called it his artistic testament. It´s one of the last pieces he wrote from the early 40´s, and it has been available on Hanssler for a few years now. It´s a large ´symphonic´ work with some wonderful use of the ondes martenot, one of my favourites. Also I would strongly recommend his Piano Quintet, I have no idea if it´s available on CD, I have a tape of a Radio 3 broadcast.

CPO has released the 9 symphonies of the Swede Kurt Atterberg, which I have found enjoyable and listen to often...das

Thanks for that Dubrob. Sounds like his 'magnum opus'. You know, I particularly enjoy the fact that if I post something on an 'obscure' or lesser known composer that there are others out there who have discovered that composer as well.

Happy listening! I am off to listen today to VW's 9th which was a freebie given away by ahem...another serious music magazine. I have Hovhaness' City of Light on Naxos on its way also!

I'd certainly add Roger Sessions and Wallingford Riegger.

I haven't read the whole thread but hopefully someone has mentioned Hermann Koppel and Einar Englund. From a more recent generation, Kalevi Aho should be explored.
