Worst Dressed Performer?
Yes, turtlenecks........there was obviously a real craze for those in the seventies. Ashkenazy was rarely out of his for about twenty years:

Abbado had a (very brief) fling with them, but usually went for more Italiante open collars with V-neck, Muti-style sweater.

Wearing these items is one thing: choosing to be photographed in them, and then presumably approving the photographs is quite another. Imagine Klemps or Toscanini in some of these garbs!

Are we forgetting those EMI Karajan BPO LPs.....? Heavy black leathers, motorbike just out of shot.........Ein Heldenleben comes to mind.

Horrid yes!
I'm afraid I don't have the picture but does anyone have the Chailly recording of La Boheme with Alagna and Georghiou. In the booklet is a picture of the two of them sitting in black leather on a powerful motorbike. Hope someone can find it!

Are there any known photographs of Sir Adrian Boult without at least a dress shirt and tie? He seemed to be always immaculately attired. Those days are long gone, unfortunately.

On my old record covers, the most risque Boult shots are those with his jacket off. Tie still immaculately knotted though.

I guess in the top one they went for the gypsy look and the bottom one is the pirate version, but frankly, I can't spot the difference.

I've got a bath robe like that, but for some reason I never wear a turtleneck sweater under it.
