I got to know Mozart's K515 through the Grumiaux recording and recently had chance to listen to the Talich version. Very impressive but one thing puzzled me. Grumiaux plays the Menuetto second, the Andante third, Talich vice versa. Is there a controversy re. the order of these two movements (a la Mahler 6, movements 2 and 3) or is this a recording error? Andante then Menuetto sounds right to me, but maybe that's because it's what I'm used to.

RE: A question for Mozart gurus

Tagalie, my recording of K 515, by an outfit called the Ensemble Villa Musica, puts the minuet before the andante. The notes, which aren't a model of clarity, first state that Mozart's autograph does the opposite. However they conclude by stating " .............we are surely justified in giving preference to the sequence of movements indicated in the autograph". So, search me.

Thanks, Guillaume. That seems to settle it, there does appear to be some doubt as to Mozart's intended movement sequence. Not that it matters a great deal these days with our ability to programme track order.
