RE: A set of Dvorak symphonies

Before I share a thought I would like to ask one principal question: What are the differences between the Kertesz and Kubelik cycles? I've found that I tend to like Kubelik's approach a little more than Kertesz. It sounds warm hearted and sincere, whereas Kertesz sounds a little distant and aloof.

The Chandos box of Järvi and the Scottish National Orchestra is one of few Dvorak sets I know of that doesn't split symphonies across discs. I know it may not be well regarded among Dvorak fans but I'm quite happy with it.

I'm really looking forward to the new Decca Belohlavek cycle that will come out in a few years' time.

I have the Kubelik on vinyl and think they are great. On CD I have Gunzenhauser/Slovak PO from Naxos... a good set at a great price.

On another note, check out Kertez and the Schubert Symphonies... the best I've heard.

There's a cheap Brilliant

There's a cheap Brilliant Classics set with Jarvi in the first 4 symphonies, Behlohlavek in 5,6,7 and Jansons in 8 and 9.

I don't own it myself since I'm not THAT big a Dvorak fan and Kubelik serves me nicely - but budget- and recording-wise it could be a good choice.
